Connecting Your PS5 Controller to Multiple Devices: How to Do It

When it comes to controllers or gamepads, no one does it better than Sony. The latest iteration, the all-new DualSense, is just about the best controller on the market today, if not ever. It’s so good that people use it on multiple devices. But while the PS5 controller is widely supported, a little-known fact is that you can actually connect it to up to four different devices at the same time and switch with a figurative snap of the finger.

Thanks to a new update released globally on September 16, the Sony DualSense 5 controller can pair with up to four devices via Bluetooth and switch seamlessly between each one.

How? Don’t worry. We’ll show you.

This is how you connect your PS5 controller to as many as four of your favorite video game devices.

What You’ll Need

  1. A DualSense PlayStation 5 Controller
  2. Four Bluetooth-enabled devices

Since launching, the DualSense has always supported connections through Bluetooth-enabled devices. However, switching between connecting to your laptop, your preferred mobile devices, such as a Steam Deck, and your PlayStation 5 was cumbersome. You had to press the PS button and the Create button to connect to the devices you want to use. What’s worse is that you had to do it manually each time you switched devices.

The September 16 PlayStation 5 update changed this. According to Sony, it’s aware that the DualSense is used across many devices, from desktops to tablets, gaming consoles, and more. Because of this, it introduced the update to help create “a more flexible and seamless gaming experience.”

In a nutshell, the update meant that you could use your DualSense to play a game on Steam one moment and jump on to enjoy any one of these fan-favorite titles immediately. You won’t need to keep on un- and re-pairing your device anymore.

How to Connect DualSense to Multiple Devices

The DualSense now works after the update is it assigns each compatible device to one of the controller’s four action buttons: triangle, circle, cross, and square. This means you can save up to four devices and cycle between them simply by pressing the PS button and the assigned action button without having to go through the previously cumbersome setup process. It’s that simple.

You’ll know which device you’re connected to based on the slot used and the number of indicator lights shown:

  • One indicator light on – Triangle
  • Two indicators light on – Circle
  • Three indicator lights on – Cross
  • Four indicator lights on – Square
