GTA 6 Release Date and Platforms
GTA 6 launches worldwide on November 19, 2026. At launch, the game runs on two platforms only: the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S.
There is no PC version at launch. A PC release is widely expected to follow later, but Rockstar Games has not given it a date. There are also no PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch 2 versions. GTA 6 is a truly next-gen title, made with the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X in mind.

When Can You Actually Play? GTA 6 Unlock Times by Region
Based on the store listings, the game goes live at local midnight on November 19 in each region, which means New Zealand plays first and Mexico is among the last to get in. If you are in New Zealand, you are gaming while most of the world is still at work on the 18th.
The table below is the reported schedule, converted to UTC so you can line it up with your own clock.
| Region | Local unlock | UTC equivalent |
| New Zealand (NZDT) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 11:00 am UTC, Nov 18 |
| Sydney (AEDT) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 1:00 pm UTC, Nov 18 |
| Japan (JST) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 3:00 pm UTC, Nov 18 |
| Philippines (PHT) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 4:00 pm UTC, Nov 18 |
| India (IST) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 6:30 pm UTC, Nov 18 |
| Central Europe (CET) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 11:00 pm UTC, Nov 18 |
| UK (GMT) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 12:00 am UTC, Nov 19 |
| US East (ET) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 5:00 am UTC, Nov 19 |
| US Pacific (PT) | 9:00 pm, Nov 18 | 5:00 am UTC, Nov 19 |
| Mexico City (CST) | 12:00 am, Nov 19 | 6:00 am UTC, Nov 19 |
Because the unlock follows local midnight, US Pacific players actually get in on the evening of November 18, three hours before the East Coast hits midnight. Small mercy, but a mercy all the same.
Pre-Load and Your Pre-Launch Checklist
You do not have to wait until launch day to download the game. Pre-load opens at local midnight on November 12, a full week before release. Use it that week. Download early, make sure you have the space free, and sort out any storage upgrade before the servers get slammed on launch day. And, oh, plan generously. GTA 6 is expected to be a massive game.
GTA 6 Price by Country
A game is only as affordable as your local store makes it, and GTA 6 prices vary a lot across regions. The local price is the number that actually matters to you, so that is what the table leads with. The USD figures beside each one are approximate conversions from mid-2026, included only to compare sticker prices, not to rank affordability. Taxes, local currency swings, and regional pricing all play a part in why the same game costs more in one country than another.
| Market | Standard | ~USD | Ultimate | ~USD |
| South Korea | ₩89,800 | ~$58 | ₩112,800 | ~$73 |
| Japan | ¥9,800 | ~$61 | ¥12,280 | ~$76 |

| Hungary | HUF 31,990 | ~$102 | HUF 39,990 | ~$127 |
| Israel | ILS 319 | ~$107 | ILS 399 | ~$134 |
South Korea, Japan, and India come out among the cheapest in converted terms, while a handful of European markets and Israel sit at the top. Wherever you are, the Standard Edition is the entry point and the Ultimate Edition costs roughly 25 percent more.
GTA 6 Editions: Standard vs Ultimate
Rockstar Games keeps it refreshingly simple this time. There are two editions, and that is it. No collector’s box, no five-tier upsell ladder, just Standard and Ultimate.
| Edition | Price (US / UK / EU) | What you get |
| Standard Edition | $79.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 | The base game. Sold digitally or as a physical code-in-box. |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 / £89.99 / €99.99 | The base game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Digital only. |
The Ultimate Edition Upgrade bundles 16 in-game bonuses, including a 1995 Grotti Cheetah, the Hawk and Little Morgan Revolvers, and a Classic Car Collection. The bonuses tie into Jason and Lucia’s story and unlock as you clear each chapter, so they are not all handed to you on day one. If you buy Standard and later change your mind, you can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade on its own once your code is redeemed. There is no physical Ultimate Edition, so a boxed copy is always the Standard game and a download code.
There is more detail worth reading before you decide, so if you are torn between the two, our Standard vs Ultimate editions breakdown weighs up exactly what the extra money buys you.
Pre-Order Bonuses
Pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026. The reward for buying early, or at least before launch, is the Vintage Vice City Pack. Any digital pre-order or digital purchase of either edition made before November 20, 2026 includes it, and it contains a 1955 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, a set of outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Physical pre-orders get a code that includes the same pack.
Digital buyers who get in before November 20 also receive one month of GTA+ membership. The physical pre-order listing does not mention the GTA+ month, so if that matters to you, go digital.
PS5 or Xbox: Which Should You Play GTA 6 On?
The game is the same on both consoles, and cross-play is expected, so your friends’ platform might matter more than any spec sheet. That said, the two experiences are not identical, and the gap comes down to performance headroom, price, and the controller in your hands.
| Factor | PlayStation 5 | Xbox Series X and S |
| Launch performance | Around 4K upscaled, roughly 30 fps on the base PS5 | Series X is expected to match it closely, maybe steadier in places. Series S is the weakest, with lower resolution |
| Top-end ceiling | PS5 Pro is the standout option in the lineup | No Pro-tier Xbox exists |
| Price (approx USD) | Digital ~$600, Disc ~$650, Pro ~$900+ | Series S ~$500 to $600, Series X ~$750 to $800 |
| Controller | DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers | Standard rumble, excellent ergonomics |
| Ecosystem perk | Huge install base, demand running about 6 to 1 | Game Pass value for everything else you play |
Honestly speaking, the PlayStation 5 is the better pick for most players, on price, on the DualSense immersion that Rockstar Games tends to use well, and on the PS5 Pro ceiling if you want the best-looking version. It is not a blowout, though. Xbox is great if you are already invested in that ecosystem, your friends play there, or you count on Game Pass for the rest of your library. If you want the current lay of the land on cost, our PS5 price in 2026 guide breaks down every model.
One clarification, since it comes up a lot: no console-exclusive GTA 6 content has been confirmed. Sony has a marketing partnership with Rockstar Games, and timed PlayStation extras are considered likely, but nothing is official, so do not buy a PS5 purely for bonuses that may never arrive.
GTA 6 itself targets around 30 fps, so this is not the game that shows off a high-refresh display. If smooth, high-speed play is your thing, the PS5 Pro has the headroom for it elsewhere, and our roundup of the best 120 fps games on PS5 and PS5 Pro is a good place to see what that hardware can really do between now and launch.
The Controller Question
Here is the thing about a game like this. You are not going to play it for a weekend. You are going to pour hundreds of hours into Vice City over the next few years, and the controller in your hands for all of that will quietly make or break the experience.
Sony and Rockstar Games know it, which is why there are two gorgeous limited-edition DualSense controllers built for the launch: a black Vice City nightlife design and a white daytime design, both with a color-shifting finish and molded palm trees. They look fantastic, and we covered them in full in our limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers piece. The one catch is that they are cosmetic. Under the shell, they are standard DualSense pads, which means the same stick drift that eventually affects every stock controller.
If you care about how the pad actually plays over the long haul, the upgrades that matter are drift-resistant sticks, clicky triggers, and rear inputs. That is the difference between a controller that lasts and one you are replacing in a year. You can build your own custom controller with exactly those upgrades, and if you want to see how the options stack up first, our best PS5 controller in 2026 comparison lays them out side by side. No pressure either way. Just do not let a drifting stick ruin a chase sequence six months in.
GTA 6 Launch FAQ
What time does GTA 6 unlock?
At local midnight on November 19 in most regions, based on the store listings. New Zealand goes first and Mexico is among the last. Check the region table above for your UTC conversion, and confirm against your own store closer to the day.
How big is the GTA 6 download?
Rockstar Games has not confirmed the install size. Expect a large download and clear plenty of space ahead of time rather than scrambling on launch day.
Can I pre-load a physical copy?
Yes. Pre-load opens at local midnight on November 12 for both digital and physical buyers. The boxed copy holds a download code, so you install it the same way a digital buyer does.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Not at launch. A PC version is widely expected to follow, but Rockstar Games has not announced a date, so any specific PC timing is unconfirmed.
Do I need PS Plus or Game Pass to play?
No subscription is needed for the single-player game. Any online service, if and when it arrives, may require PlayStation Plus or the Xbox equivalent, but the campaign is yours to play solo.
Which edition should I buy?
Standard if you only want the game. Ultimate if the extra vehicles, weapons, and story bonuses appeal to you. You can always upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later.
Which console is better for GTA 6?
The PlayStation 5 for most players, on price and DualSense immersion, with the PS5 Pro as the top option. Xbox is still a solid pick if you value Game Pass or already play there.
One Date. Everything Ready.
November 19, 2026. That is the only date that matters now, and you have everything you need to be ready for it: the unlock time for your region, the price in your currency, the edition that fits your budget, and the console that suits the way you play. Pre-load on the 12th, clear your space, and sort your controller before the rush.
Then all that is left is to drive into Vice City and find out whether the wait was worth it. Our bet? It will be.
