Sony just gave Grand Theft Auto VI the kind of treatment it normally reserves for its own biggest exclusives. At the September 3 State of Play, Sony and Rockstar revealed two limited-edition DualSense controllers built around Vice City, a black one and a white one, both landing alongside the highly anticipated title on November 19.
If you have been waiting for a reason to buy a new DualSense before the year ends, Sony just gave you two very good ones, and they look the part, too.
They look the part, too. Both controllers carry a shimmering, color-shifting finish that blends the hues of a Vice City sunset with the glow of neon and custom palm-tree details molded straight into the shell for a tactile touch you can feel under your fingers. This is a third-party game getting a first-party-sized push, and the controllers are the most eye-catching piece of it yet.
Here is everything Sony confirmed about the GTA 6 the DualSense controllers and an honest look at what these designs do and do not change about how your pad actually plays.
Two Controllers, Two Sides of Vice City
The two designs split Vice City between day and night. The white edition captures Vice City at daybreak, all white sands, pastel skies, and laid-back coastal glamour, the kind of look that belongs on a beach at sunrise. The black edition goes the other way, channeling the energy of the city’s neon-soaked nightlife. Both share the overall headlines touches, the iridescent, color-shifting finish that catches the light differently as you move it, the molded palm trees, and official Grand Theft Auto VI branding.
Here is the full breakdown of what Sony confirmed.

Pre-orders open September 10, and if the rest of this GTA 6 campaign is anything to go by, these will not be available for long. Sony has spent months turning the game into a PlayStation showcase, from taking over the PS5 home screen to leaning on the “plays best on PS5” line, and limited controllers tied to the biggest launch of the decade are exactly the kind of thing scalpers are quick to secure.
What the GTA 6 DualSense Controllers Do (And What They Do Not)
Unfortunately, as gorgeous as the GTA 6 DualSense controllers are, they are cosmetic. Under that iridescent shell, each one is a standard DualSense, with the same haptic feedback and adaptive triggers you already get from the pad in your hands. In GTA 6 specifically, the DualSense’s haptics and adaptive triggers do a lovely job of bringing Jason and Lucia’s Vice City to life, but you get that same experience from any DualSense, limited edition or not.
We’re not hating on them. If you love the Vice City look and want your setup to match the biggest game of the year, these are a genuinely lovely way to do it, and there is real joy in a controller that looks the part. It’s a beautiful shell and a collector’s piece. However, the internals are the same as the standard pad, which means they carry the same limitations too, including the ALPS potentiometer sticks that tend to develop drift within 12 to 18 months of regular use.
What Actually Changes How a Controller Plays
If a limited-edition finish is a cosmetic change, the natural question is what a functional one looks like, and that comes down to what’s under the hood and not what’s outside. The things that genuinely change how a controller performs are drift-proof stick technology, faster triggers, and rear inputs that let you keep both thumbs on the sticks, none of which a themed DualSense adds over a standard one.
This is where custom controllers come in, and where the choice gets more interesting than black or white. A custom PS5 controller is built on genuine DualSense hardware, so you keep the haptics and adaptive triggers that make GTA 6 feel so good, but you can also add the parts that actually change the experience: TMR sticks that never drift, digital triggers, and back buttons or paddles. You can even design the look yourself, Vice City palette included, if matching the game is the goal.
We put all of this side by side in our best PS5 controller in 2026 comparison, which lines up the standard DualSense, the DualSense Edge, and a custom build across the features that decide long-term value.
If you are already thinking about a new pad for GTA 6 and want it to last well past launch, this is where you start.
Beautiful Pads for the Biggest Launch of the Year
The two GTA 6 DualSense controllers are a real treat for anyone counting down to November 19. The color-shifting Vice City finish and molded palm trees make them some of the best-looking limited editions in a while, and for collectors, the black edition in particular is going to be a prize.
If you want your controller to match the biggest launch of the year, they are hard to resist. If it is the Vice City look you are after, these deliver it beautifully. If it is the way the controller feels and lasts that you want to change, we suggest upgrading and one you can read all about in our PS5 controller rankings. Either way, there has never been a better time to think about the pad you are taking into Leonida.
Of course, if you insist on these custom GTA 6
