The start of a new year means that we’ve got plenty of new PS4 exclusive games games to look forward to once again, which brings us to our list for today.
Keep in mind, however, that our list of PS4 exclusive games scheduled for a 2019 release isn’t by any means exhaustive. We might update it as games are announced or confirmed as well. But, we will try to make it as comprehensive as possible.
With that said, here are some of the PS4 exclusive games confirmed to release in 2019.
Honourable Mentions / Unconfirmed
Ghost of Tsushima
Gorgeous isn’t even enough of a word to begin to describe just how beautiful the latest game from Sucker Punch is — the same people behind the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper games — which is why, we perfectly understand why they won’t release the game in 2019. But, then again, we can wish, can’t we?
Anyway, aside from the graphics and the setting (late 1200s Japan), we don’t really know much about Ghost of Tsushima.
What we do know, however, is that we’re all excited for it.
Blood and Truth
After making waves in late 2017, Blood and Truth, a PSVR-exclusive from SIE London Studio, flew under the radar for much of 2018. Or, at least, it didn’t really make a lot of noise, which is understandable, given how weak the sales of the PSVR have been so far.
That was way before the latest holiday season though, and with the PSVR getting a sweet price cut, more and more people are starting to adopt the technology.
Considering the slight increase in numbers, players will want to have something to play, and we can expect Sony to try and push London Studio too have Blood and Truth ready sooner rather than later.
The ever-mysterious and forever-brilliant Hideo Kojima has continuously teased the gaming audiences from all over the world since the first trailer for Death Stranding landed, and despite numerous trailers released since, we don’t really know what to make of his first video game since he split with Konami.
But, given how Death Stranding was one of the key higlights of E3 2018 and the fact that Hideo Kojima has already confirmed that the game will release before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, there’s a chance we could see the game release late in 2019, or early 2020.
An FMV (Full Motion Video) game that can be played with a smartphone or the DS4, Erica is one of the first of its kind, and depending on its success, could be the game that propels FMV’s into mainstream popularity.
Unfortunately, despite how surprisingly polished the game was when it was first teased back in 2016, no one has heard from it since.
With Sony likely to push PlayLink this year, we can only hope that Erica becomes part of the lineup.
Release date: April 26
After much anticipation, Days Gone finally has a concrete release date on April 26 and barring a complete catastrophe, the game will surely release on that day.
Delays are almost never good. Most of the time, it’s a nice that a game isn’t up to par with expectations. But, in Days Gone’s case, Sony has pushed the game back mostly so that its release date doesn’t coincide with that of other big titles, especially PS4 exclusives.
Having said that, more time should only serve Days Gone good as it gives the developers, the Bend Studio of Syphon Filter fame, a chance to polish the game to perfection before it hits store shelves.
Release date: Spring 2019
For the better part of the past decade or so, Sony hasn’t really struck out with a bad release as far as their exclusives go.
Concrete Genie should not be an exception.
Evoking the same feelings as that of the indie-esque titles released during the latter years of Sony’s last-gen console, the PlayStation 3, Concrete Genie is a painting puzzle game that’s sure to be one of the most visually pleasing games to hit the PlayStation 4 ever once it releases in Spring 2019.
Release date: 2019
Dreams is a game that focuses on letting players “play, create, and share” and with Media Molecule behind it — the same guys who developed hit titles like LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway — there’s some serious potential of it becoming one of the best PS4 exclusives games ever released.
Unfortunately, Dreams has been stuck in development for the better part of the past decade, with the initial beta period being delayed from 2016 to 2017 before finally going through in 2018.
Hopefully, we won’t see any more delays of the game’s full release this 2019.
The past two years saw some of the best PS4 exclusive games ever released in God of War, Spider Man, and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Compared to those titles, the list of PS4 exclusive games scheduled for a 2019 release feels a little bit underwhelming. But, who knows? Sony might decide to surprise everyone and speed up the timeline of other PS4 exclusive games set to release two to three years from now. If not, well, we can at least be thankful that we’ve gone more exclusives to add to our ever-growing library.
