It’s not easy to find good PS4 games for kids today. Most games are either too violent, full of sexual content, or both. It also certainly doesn’t help that the best games are geared towards adults either, and the ones that are not usually aren’t any good at all.

But, make no mistake, there are plenty of family-friendly PS4 games available. This includes single-player games that can help develop your child’s creativity and multiplayer games that the entire family can enjoy together.

Whether you’re looking for a game to start your pre-teen with or you want to bring the entire family together for some good ol’ game nights, it’ll be a good idea to start with these games.

Minecraft

Minecraft literally screams PS4 games for kids.

One of the most iconic video games released in recent years, Minecraft allows players to build their own pixelated world, one block at a time. Also, because the game randomly generates a new world every play through, the gameplay experience is also vastly different as well.

The game features all sorts of weather and terrain as well. This includes plains, rivers, beaches, snowy mountains, swaps, and so much more. With so much to explore and build, your child definitely won’t get tired after just a few short hours.

As an added bonus, the entire family can join in on the fun locally via splitscreen as well.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

A series of games that you most likely played when you were younger, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is an updated take on these classic games. Although the core gameplay and story remains the same, the developers, Vicarious Visions, also updated the graphics and sounds to give the game a more modern feel and look. Not to mention, there are a couple of new characters added in, as well as time trials, leader boards, and more.

PS4 games rarely get more appropriate and better than the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

A remaster of the original Crash Team Racing, titled “Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled“, is also set to release later in June of this year, so you might want to pick that up as well.

Unravel

Challenging enough to give even adult brains a bit of an exercise, while also remaining cute enough to keep younger children interested for hours, Unravel rolls challenging logic-based puzzles and an amazing scenery all into one neat game.

Unravel is also just short enough of a game that your kids won’t get bored from playing it for too long.

Overcooked! 2

Speaking of PS4 games for kids that gets more fun the more players there are involved, Overcooked! 2 is the perfect game to binge as a family on game nights.

Taking everything that made cafe-style games so much fun while also adding a multiplayer element to it, Overcooked 2! lets up to 4 players work together to keep a kitchen running like a well-oiled machine. Fail to have teamwork, and you’ll be toast (pun intended).

If there’s one caveat to this game, it’s that the game just isn’t any fun when played alone.

Knack 2

An improvement over its predecessor, Knack 2 improves a lot about the lack of substances that many criticized the original title for. Although, as PS4 games for kids, both titles are just as equally fun and entertaining.

Featuring easy-to-understand mechanics that eventually evolve and become more complex as the game goes on, Knack 2! is the perfect gateway game to get your kids into gaming.

Lego Dimensions

Who doesn’t love Lego bricks?

Lego Dimensions is a game that will let your child play with Lego bricks, and then some.

Although a bit more expensive compared to other PS4 games for kids, the amount of content that you get with Lego Dimensions is also worth it. Plus, if you spend just a little bit more, you’ll get a chance to play through stories from a bunch of other films and levels to play in based on famous areas from known franchises such as The Simpsons, among others.

Rayman Legends

Platformers offer some of the best PS4 games for kids there are out there, and only a few platformers are just as finely turned for kids as it is for adults as Rayman legends.

The latest main title in the classic Rayman series, this old-school platformer features everything that you probably grew up with while also adding a couple of modern touches to endear the game to this generation’s audiences.

As is usually the case with platformers, the plot is essentially irrelevant. What’s important is that there’s tons of stuff for you to do in the game, and paired with its unique level design as well as vibrant colors, the game possesses entertainment value for players both young and old.

LittleBigPlanet 3 offers just a little bit of everything you’d need from PS4 games for kids. There’s cute characters, puzzles to solve, tons of exploration, and a chance to unleash a child’s seemingly endless creativity using the game’s set of robust level creation tools.

Rocket League

Rocket League features a relatively simple concept that even children can understand. You drive a car and you essentially play soccer using it. Of course, it takes hundreds if not thousands of hours to master the game, which also gives it a lot of longevity.

Allowing up to four players to play together via split screen, Rocket League is a great way to spice game nights up with a little bit of competition.

Lastly, it’s an esport title, so in case your child shows an aptitude for the game, there’s a viable career waiting in store if he or she decides to pursue it.

Skylanders: Imaginators

The sixth installment in a series that originally started as a spin-off of the Spyro video game series, Skylanders: Imaginators is a quirky, colorful game with simple mechanics that your kid can have fun playing on his or her own. Kids can also create their own characters, and there’s nothing more magical to children than seeing their own characters come to life (in video games, at least).

Kids can also choose to bring over all of their old toys from previous games and add them to the game, which is quite useful if you want to teach your kids about preserving their toys and taking good care of them.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

A remaster of the first three games of the Spyro franchise, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy breathes new life to one of the most recognizable games of its generation.

Packed full of details while retaining the charm of the original titles, while also adding a couple of quality of life improvements to make the series easier to play, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is one of the best PS4 games for kids, and for kids at heart.
