The first half of 2018 was brilliant for devotees of Sony’s latest console, which only gives us hope for an even better set of upcoming PlayStation 4 games in the latter half of this year.
Already, we’ve seen a lot of big hits. Like, for example, the return of a tamer, more fatherly Kratos in the recently released God Of War. Of course, who could forget the Shadow of the Colossus remake released back in February? And while an underrated game, there’s no doubt gamers who stumbled upon Ni No Kuni 2 are still fawning over its Studio Ghibli animation style graphics.
Having said that, we’ve rounded up the latest set of upcoming PlayStation 4 games confirmed for release later this year that will have you wishing for a time machine.
Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
Release Date: September 21, 2018
In 2017, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was remastered and released exclusively first for the PlayStation 4 before being released to other consoles. Given its success, it was only a matter of time before other former classics would make their way back into the modern era. Apparently, Toys for Bob and Activision thought so too, as they’re upping the nostalgia factor with the return of one of PlayStation’s original mascots in Spyro.
The Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will feature Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage, and Year of the Dragon, all completely remastered for the PlayStation 4.
Crash Bandicoot proved that nostalgia is not to be underestimated in 2017. Look to Spyro to double down on that.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Release Date: October 26, 2018
Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally here.
Originally due to release in the second half of 2017, Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed once again from Q1/Q1 of 2018 to its current release date. Fingers crossed, this will be the last delay the game will ever see.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is easily one of the most anticipated sequels of this generation. And though it’ll technically be a prequel, we’re still down for any excuse to go back and explore the Old West all over again.
Keep in mind that while we included Red Dead Redemption 2 is our list of upcoming PlayStation 4 games this 2018, it’s actually going to be a cross-platform title. Xbox One users will also be able to play the game once it releases.

Release Date: 2018 (TBA)
So, we don’t exactly know if and when Death Stranding will release. We don’t even know if it will release anytime soon. Even worse, there are very few details regarding what Death Stranding’s gameplay is actually going to be like. Hideo Kojima, the same genius behind the Metal Gear franchise, has not exactly made it easy by keeping details about his first new IP since Metal Gear Solid in 1998 all too himself.
Regardless, what we do know is that Death Stranding is a game that most people will jump on the chance to play as soon as it releases.
Ghost of Tsushima
Release Date: 2018 (TBA)
Similar to Death Stranding, we don’t exactly have a clear release date as of yet for Ghost of Tsushima. However, it is possible that we’ll see it release sometime this year, judging by the trailer Sony showed of the game at CES 2018 and the fact that the game has been in development for around three years or so already.
As far as gameplay goes, Sucker Punch, developers of the Infamous and Sly Cooper games, describes Ghost of Tsushima as an open-world stealth ninja game. If the thought of that conjured up images of Tenchu, then you’re not alone. It’s been so long since we’ve had a good stealth ninja game that actually emphasizes stealth.
Either way, even if Ghost of Tsushima does not end up getting released later this year, we can at least expect the game to be most anticipated upcoming PlayStation 4 games at E3 2018.
Release Date: 2018
Dreams from Media Molecule has apparently been in development for at least the past five years. That’s a long time spent stuck in development hell. Still, even so, the hype for the game remains. How could it not? If the success and sheer ingenuity of the Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet games are any indications, then Dreams is going to be worth the wait.
Based on the premise of letting players create the entire game from scratch, Dreams is a game that takes the idea of creativity to a whole other level, which could make it the ultimate game for the creatives out there.
Detroit: Become Human
Release Date: May 25, 2018
Detroit: Become Human takes the genre trope that has been so prevalent in science fiction for at least half a century and made a game out of it.
The developers, Quantic Dream, puts players in a world where they’ll have to play as both android and human and try to come up with the answer to the question, can androids and humans co-exist in the same society?
Regardless of whether or not you’ll find the answer, what we do know is that Detroit: Become Human is one of the upcoming PlayStation 4 games for 2018 that we can’t wait to get a chance to play.
Release Date: September 7, 2018

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of An Elusive Age
Release Date: September 2018
Launched in Japan in 2017, Square Enix has since confirmed that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is heading west in September 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo 3DS.
As always, you’ll get to save the world in the latest entry of the long-running JRPG series and get to explore a vast open world filled with secrets to uncover and mysteries to unlock.
The Last of Us Part II – The first game, The Last of Us, was probably the one title that made you want to go out and get a PlayStation 3, years well after the console first released. The sequel? It’s probably going to make those hesitant to pick up a PlayStation 4 finally got one. To say that this is one of the most awaited upcoming PlayStation 4 games is only fitting, and we can’t just wait what the sequel has in store.
Days Gone – Ever since coming out as the surprise reveal from Sony’s E3 pre-show conference back in 2016, Days Gone has been one of the most sought after upcoming PlayStation 4 games. A zombie game set in a post-apocalyptic world, the real draw for Days Gone is the sheer number of zombies showed on screen as per the trailer, which suggests that, despite the 2019 release date, the game is going to be worth the wait.
